Surviving in the Jungle
We’ve been visiting some new eco-tourism initiatives in Talamanca preparing to offer a course in survival and sustainable living in the tropics.
Continue reading Surviving in the Jungle...ATEC is Puerto Viejo’s original eco-tourism provider. We work to help visitors find fun ecologically and socially responsible activities to entertain themselves while in Talamanca, Limon, Costa Rica.
Founded back in 1989, ATEC funded the training a group of about 20 guides. Now from this website and our little office in Puerto Viejo, we represent over 100 fabulous local guides. We encourage you to support ATEC and participate in local, sustainable travel in Talamanca!
ATEC is a self-sustaining non-profit association that supports itself, its guides, and its efforts through your support. THANK YOU!
You came to Costa Rica to get to know Costa Rica, do it with Costa Ricans!
At ATEC we promote culturally and ecologically sound tourism and small-scale, locally owned and responsible businesses. We stimulate conservation through education and by helping local associations and families derive economic benefits from their natural resources.
Spend a day ambling up the coast with this lovable guide. Learn about the history of the Afro-Caribbeans along the coast and current issue they face today, stop at various beaches and end with a refreshing drink at the famous Maxi’s bar in Manzanillo.
Or learn about the Indigenous culture, stop by the iguana project in KèköLdi Indigenous Territory, pass by the recycling center, participate in chocolate making, visit a young Indigenous artist, enjoy a typical and organic lunch on a family farm, stop by a waterfall along the road, and if you still have power, get your workout going up the mountain to Talamanca’s political seat in the town of BriBri.
