Radio Nacional y Channel 13 in Talamanca

Don Wilberth of the radio program “Voces de mi Pueblo” and Don Fabio of the TV program “de Pueblo en Pueblo” spent the day with ATEC doing a feature on the south Caribbean coast.
First we drove down to Manzanillo and met with Miss Lubá and her sister Alda. They make traditional bread that is baked over coconut husks. Lubá told the interesting story of “Pan Bon.” She told us that “pan” is what we also call “johnny cake” and “bon” is a sweet bread. In the capital city of Puerto Limón. “Pan Bon” is one bread. How interesting that so close in the same province, Pan Bon is a different thing.
We stopped by and interviewed Naedy and Sonia at the Manzanillo Guide center, did some filming of the calm seas, and of miss Veronica selling Patí on the beach.
Then off to Soda Mis Sam in Puerto Viejo. We met with Mateo, famous local Calypso singer. Edwin stopped and made up a Calypso song about Channel 13 of the top of his (that’s what the old time Calypso was). Don Timoteo and family came from Watsi to share some indigenous culture and dance the Sorbón. And then they filmed miss Glenda cooking up a pot of RonDon (a stew of coconut, root vegetables, fish, and whatever the cook can “run down").
As the TV crew was doing it’s filming. Don Wilberth was interviewing some local folks with interesting stories and projects.
Don Candido shared about his Indigenous Cultural Center
Don Mauricio talked about the Puerto Viejo Local Farmer’s Market
Mis Glenda talked about the Afro-Caribbean Cultural center.
Juan Carlos from the Biological Corridor gave us updates on the recycling program and the current state of environmental issues in Talamanca.
Ana Piedra went over the projects that ATEC is working on (the Coroma water proejct, the annual school supply drive, the fix-up project at the Carbon 1 school)

As super day that ended with us all at Mis Sam’s eating RonDon. Wish I hadn’t been busy organizing and could have heard all this cool info.
We’ll hear it on the radio on the 18th of July, Sunday from 9AM to 11AM.
and see it on the TV that same Sunday, the 18th, at 10 AM. (Fabio and Wilbeth are negotiating to get times changed so people can hear both)

And then don Fabio had the fabo idea to come back for the annual Puerto Viejo Festival in August (between August 22 and August 31) and do a more thorough report on the culture and causes of Talamanca. He’ll probably spend a day in Manzanillo, a day in Puerto Viejo, a day in Alta-Talamanca and the fourth day, maybe Cahuita. Exciting to get some positive promotion for our area. So people see us more in depth, and not just think of sand and sun and the party of Puerto Viejo. The part that stresses me out is that they want us to find food and lodging for them. harr umphh. Glenda at Casa Rolando said she’d probably be a able to help out. Any other ideas, send us an
